이 연구의 목적은 세월호 재난 지원을 한 사회복지사들의 재난 관련 사회복지실천의 경험을 사회구성주의적 관점에서 사회복지실천의 구성요소인 사회복지사, 클라이언트, 실천의 맥락과 그로 인해 구성된 실천의 실재를 통해 살펴보는데 있다. 

본 연구는 사례연구방법으로 수행되었다. 본 연구의 결과 세월호 참사 후 재난 개입을 위한 실천의 맥락은 ‘혼란 속 전인미답의 길’로써 국가, 정치, 지역사회, 사회복지기관, 전문가 등 모든 체계가 혼란한 상태에서의 실천이었다. 세월호 참사의 피해자인 유가족들은 ‘도움을 청하는 클라이언트’가 아니라 ‘스스로 조직화되어 행동하는 시민’으로 자신의 정체성을 구성함으로써 사회복지사들에게 지금까지와는 다른 관계, 새로운 형태의 실천을 요구하였고, 

이에 따라 참여자들은 전문가로서보다는 ‘이웃’으로서 미시적·거시적으로 다양한 차원의 역할을 수행하였다. 

이 과정에서 참여자들은 세월호 재난 상황에서 실천적 지혜로서 ‘함께 이론을 구성하기’, ‘공감하고 믿어주며 함께 걸어가기’, ‘공동 협력체계를 확장하고 구축하기‘를 실천의 실재로 구성하였다. 본 연구는 재난에서의 실천적 지식을 공유하고 향후 재난 지원 주체로써 사회복지사의 역할과 실천방안을 모색하였다는데 그 의의가 있다. 

The purpose of this study was to examine the experiences of disaster-related social work practices of social workers who supported the Sewol ferry disaster in South Korea. This study was carried out as a case study method from the social constructivist perspective. Study result showed first that the context of social work practice for the relief of the Sewol ferry disaster was constructed as “going on a road no one has stepped on.” Disaster social work took place in a chaotic state where all systems such as state, politics, community, social welfare institutions and all kinds of experts were confused. Secondly, the bereaved families who were the victims of the Sewol ferry disaster identified themselves as citizens who are organized and acted on their own, not as clients seeking help. They demanded social workers different relationship patterns and new forms of practice. Therefore, social workers played various roles at both micro and macro level as 'neighbors' rather than as experts. By going through this process, social workers constructed their own ‘realities’ of practice wisdom in the Sewol ferry disaster as ‘constructing theory with clients,’ ‘walking with the clients with empathy and trust,’ and ‘extending and building collaborative partnerships.’ This study contributed to identification of both the practical knowledge constructed in a disaster situation in South Korea and the future role of the social workers as key agents in the disaster intervention teams.
